True, our local government programs are currently struggling with the financial burden of handling toxic products at the end-of-life. But the net environmental impact of toxic waste affects us all - regardless of where one County or State ends and the next begins. Ultimately, we have to determine how our nation will handle this growing problem.

  In 2008 and 2009, NACo adopted a series of resolutions supporting product stewardship for fluorescent lamps, electronic waste, paint, pharamacetuicals and a framework approach to product stewardship.  It was decided in 2010 to make the platform permanent instead of requiring readoption each year and to allow it to be flexible to cover more products.
